IF YOU take one key message away from the spring/summer 2016 catwalks, it's this: slip dressing is back. Silky, sinuous dresses, camisoles and bias-cut skirts were a staple in numerous collections, not least Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Céline, Calvin Klein and Burberry. All of which conspires to mean we want to wear them immediately.

Don't worry about the fluctuating autumnal temperatures. Slips lend themselves to layering. A fine-knit polo neck underneath a slip dress will keep you warm; alternatively channel Nineties Kate Moss and wear with a giant rollneck jumper on top, or with a sports sweater like Ursina Gysi, for a Vetements-style statement. As for footwear, chunky flatforms or ankle boots look less provocative than spiky heels or strappy sandals.
Length is key. Too short looks too come-to-bed; midi or floor-length looks more modern. Try wearing one under a skirt or another dress, so you can see a bit of lace poking out underneath the hem. Or just opt for a silk camisole worn under a biker jacket with jeans.
One final tip: vintage slips win out, but make sure you opt for clean silhouettes and minimal lace at the neckline if you don't want to look (and possibly smell) like a musty Miss Havisham. Think Carolyn Bessette Kennedy on her wedding day, and you can't go far wrong.
