If You Try One Autumn Trend From David Jones, Make It This

The annual David Jones A/W fashion launch always signals the start of the new season. Fashion insiders forget all about their summer essentials and start to plan ahead for the cooler months. While February is still unbearably hot in Australia, the collections start to land in store right now, so it’s actually the ideal time to snap up the best pieces on offer.
Tonight, Sydney’s best-dressed descended upon the historical Level 7 at David Jones Elizabeth Street for an epic celebration of new season fashion, dance and music in collaboration with the Sydney Dance Company. Jessica Gomes, Catherine McNeil, Montana Cox, Jesinta Campbell and newcomer Megan Irwin all took to the runway in some of our favourite local and international designers (think Ellery, Christopher Esber, Alexander Wang and 3.1 Phillip Lim).
So what will we be wearing next season? The ’70s are unsurprisingly still going strong and it lends itself to autumn just as well as it did for summer. We’re hailing it as the trend to try if you haven’t already. It isn't the obvious references to the era that we're lusting over, but more the subtleties (bell sleeves, floaty dresses and lace detailing).  Merchandise director Donna Player explains “artisanal textures and quirky combinations help capture the authentic mood of the '70s with the return of timeless retro colours and loose, free-spirited shapes.” If this is what autumn looks like, sign us up early.
